Away Days

Company away days aren't all they are cracked up to be. They usually involve sending middle-management cretins to a retreat somewhere in the Berkshire countryside to learn new sales techniques. Then, incorporated in to the day as if to make it even more 'fun', there are team-building games designed to get them working together. Mental conundrums get their minds thinking as one, and meaningless games designed to get the boss looking like a tit usually succeed.

So-called experts say it's socially responsible to do team-building stuff like that, others say it will generate a more productive atmosphere and fuse the bonds between co-workers.

Who wants to spend an hour holding hands with the BO infused IT geek shouting instructions to the inherently stupid marketing girl who is blindfolded and trying to make a tent?

Not us, that's for sure.

That's why, once every couple of months or so, we have an away day with a difference. We don't wear matching baseballs caps and twiddle with plastic building bricks, nor do we pretend to like the people we are forced to work with everyday.

The truth is, we actually all get on anyway, and we even drink together on an evening, albeit a little too often for our liver's liking.

So the ideas behind our bi-monthly away days are thus:

To have fun
To participate in a physical activity
To drink alcohol post-physical activity
To leave with a big drunken grin on our faces
To be late for work the next morning
